Exploring States of Matter With A Whoosh!

Oak Class and Maple Class were amazed by a dramatic 'woosh bottle experiment' as part of their learning on states of matter and energy of particles. The experiment used methylated spirit in a bottle. By shaking the bottle, the children learned how this gives the liquid particles more energy, causing some of the spirit to evaporate into gas. When the gas was ignited, it produced the exciting “woosh” effect, showing how energy can cause rapid changes in matter. A huge thank you to our trained fire warden, Mrs Dawson, for ensuring the experiment was carried out safely.
