Tuesday 25 February 2025 Wickhambreaux Readers Meet HRH Queen Camilla at Canterbury Library At Wickhambreaux CEPS we always give reading the highest priority and due to our school's continued excellent participation with the Kent Library Service's Summer Reading Challenge (we've won the 'Best School Award' for Canterbury, Villages and Coastal area AGAIN this year!), we were invited to take along a small group of children to a very special VIP event at Canterbury Library in the The Beaney Centre. Children who have either been keen SRC participants or have worked really hard with our school's various reading interventions to become even better readers, spent the morning carrying out several fascinating reading-based tasks within the children's section of the library, whilst they eagerly waited to meet our VIP.

They explored a house authentically decorated in 1940s style, complete with an Anderson shelter, where they learned how families prepared for air raids. The children discovered the importance of Blitz precautions and got hands-on with history by making traditional rag rugs. They even stepped into the shoes of wartime strategists, using protractors to give precise commands to airmen.
